Obituary for Andrew J. Clingan

Andrew J. Clingan was born on September 5, 1938 in Albuquereque, New Mexico. He passed away on March 6, 2018 in Mesa, Arizona. He was a man who had his priorities straight, putting his whole trust and faith in his Savior. He was a caring and compassionate husband, father, and pop-pop—always putting his family’s needs before his own. His profession was that of a Court Reporter which he did for 36 years in Clayton, Alabama. He was an active member of the Clayton Lions Club and the Clayton Rotary Club, having served as president and secretary numerous times in both organizations.

He was a member of Clayton Baptist Church where he served the Lord in many different ways—as a deacon, chairman of many committees, singing in the choir, and his favorite thing, teaching Sunday School for more than 40 years. He never met a stranger and enjoyed telling stories and making people laugh, even at his own expense. He did not miss an opportunity to help someone or to talk about his Lord. He was a great musician, learning to play the violin at an early age. In his teens he became a young artist competing and advancing through the various degrees. After moving to Mesa and joining Desert Gateway Baptist Church, he joined the choir and began playing the ¾ bass, which he mastered quickly and enjoyed playing the beautiful old hymns.

Andy leaves behind a loving wife of 50 years, two adoring daughters, a granddaughter who was the “apple of his eye,” a brother, Roy, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Agnes Clingan, brothers, L. Neal Clingan and G. Dale Clingan, his son-in-law, Donald E. Clayton, and his nephew Chris Clingan.

He will be greatly missed.

Mark 11:24: “Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when we pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
